In 2021, the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) in collaboration with the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) created a 5-part series entitled Geo-Enabling Elections that was previously available on CTCL’s learning management system. This series is now available here, on the Election Learning Lab. 

The courses in this series are self-paced and can be taken in any order but we recommend taking them in order from 101 to 105 because the information in each successive course builds on the foundation from the previous ones.

This is the second course in the series. By the end of this course, you should be able to:

• Identify the steps to build a voting unit GIS layer
• Implement a plan for updating precinct boundaries using GIS software
• Develop documentation to maintain your voting unit GIS layer

This course should take approximately 45 minutes to complete.
